A common critique is the limited vegan options available on the menu, with only two selections offered. Although the three-bean chili receives praise, some might find the options somewhat scarce compared to the meat dishes available. Some guests mention occasional waits during peak times, especially on busy weekends, which can affect the dining experience. Lastly, while the atmosphere is generally inviting, a few visitors have commented that it can get noisy during quiz nights or busy evenings, detracting from quieter conversations.
absolutely beautiful little pub, atmosphere is lovely and the way it is decorates gives it such a cosy feel. staff are all very friendly. food portions were really generous and it’s very well priced. definitely would be back!
Booked a table for my dad's 60th birthday we travelled from Bideford while holidaying there. Welcoming knowledgeable polite staff, food was incredibly delicious, fabulous portion sizing which is incredibly good value for money.
We arrived early for our slot but were led straight to our table with drinks. Started well & it all just got better. The Sunday Lunch was probably the best we’ve had in a long time and that’s saying something! It was in our opinion very well priced for the serving sizes! The service was also outstanding as the staff were attentive but not overwhelming & frankly bent over backwards to accommodate our requests. We asked if we could just sit at the table and play cards … “No problem, stay as long as you like!” We did; the atmosphere was so good we ended up staying there until 5:45. We are not really pub people so to stay that long shows how comfortable we were made to feel. Background music was very much our taste but was changed if requested by customers. The publican was extremely personable and made the effort to mingle amongst the customers: locals and tourists alike. It is a real joy to come across a pub that genuinely makes you feel welcomed as a member of the local community from the moment you arrive.
We had a brilliant experience here and I would definitely come back again. We went as part of a stag do with the stag dressed as little red riding hood. As soon as we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by the staff, including the landlord. We had great conversation and he very generously gave us the first round of drinks for free. We were then seated straight away and the bar man came around with additional menus so we each had our own. The staff were so attentive throughout the evening and we had a lot of banter with the bar man. Even the chef came was very friendly to talk to as well. One of our group asked the landlord where he got his t-shirt from and he went upstairs and brought a spare one down and gave it to our mate free of charge. Everyone made us feel very welcome and went over and above to make it a really great evening for us. My only criticism is that there were only 2 vegan options on the menu. With that said, the three bean chilli was really nice. Definitely visit if you are in the area. I can't recommend this place enough.
We booked a table for six here for a meal as part of my Son's Stag weekend. Really glad we did as it was a great find. Welcomed by the landlord and staff from the moment we walked in, we were made to feel as if they'd known us for years. Food and service were good, they even had a couple of vegan options. Wide drinks selection too , and the place was clean! Big beer garden with sheltered areas if need be. I'd definitely recommend popping in if you're in the area.
Stopped off here on the way back from a day out. Well, what can I say, I have never had a meal to beat this. This was 3 pork ribs in BBQ sauce and one smashed burger, by far the best meal I have had in many, many, many a year. You will not be disappointed with any aspect of the Castle Inn in Lankey North Devon.
We popped in here on the off chance whilst on holiday, and wow, we’re so glad we did! The Friday Breakfast Club at the Castle Pub is one of those hidden gems that you wish was right around the corner from your home. If only we lived nearer! The full English breakfast was absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked and incredibly satisfying. Paired with a great cup of coffee, it was the ideal start to our morning. It’s clear that this place is a local hub, with a steady stream of regulars who clearly feel right at home. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff make you feel like you’ve been a part of the community forever. It’s the kind of spot you can’t help but fall in love with. Highly recommend it, especially if you find yourself in the area.
